Open Late Games has released a new game called Speakeasy, version 2.0. The game’s plot is about

Forced into an arranged marriage, Cora West defies her class traditions and flees, determined to forge her own path in life. However, she swiftly falls into the laps of some of the city’s most notorious citizens. Outside the iron gates and immaculate lawns of the West Estate in Prohibition-era Los Angeles, Cora discovers a vibrant, exhilarating, and equally deadly metropolis pulsing to the beat of jazz music and drowning in the illegal liquor of the most luxurious underground clubs around. Vincent Harlowe’s speakeasy exceeds her wildest expectations–and sometimes even her worst nightmares. Direct her activities and decide whether she will escape with her heart intact or lose herself in the splendor and excess.

Speakeasy is a story-driven otome graphic novel featuring a female heroine. Each route includes multiple sensual scenes with fully unedited CGs. The game has a common route as well as six romance routes: four with single male love interests, one sapphic love interest, and one polyamorous route with two male love interests. All routes are unlocked from the start of the game, and there is no need to complete specific routes before unlocking others. Routes can be performed in any sequence, but Vincent Harlowe should be played last. The game features 19 possible endings and requires around 35 hours of playtime to complete all available sequences, endings, and CGs. The main figure can have four distinct skin tone options (appearing in CGs and on-screen sprites), as well as a personalized name.

Speakeasy’s port from Unity to Ren’py is progressing nicely. All of the essential pieces that ensure the game runs smoothly have been completed, and we can now focus on the finer details such as sprite placement, scene transitions, and sound effects. This is the most time-consuming step and one of the most important to do right because it will determine the player experience.
Here’s an update on the development and some of the new features.
TEXT BOX AND NAVIGATION

The new text box has a useful set of tools and navigational options. Quick access items include a screenshot tool, a button to conceal the text box, auto forward, skip, back, menu, save, load, and settings.

Main Menu

The main menu has been revamped, but it retains the same capabilities as the original game, allowing players to quickly start a new game, continue a save file, see the CG gallery, alter settings, or exit the game. But now there’s an extra Momo wandering around.
CG GALLERY.

The CG Gallery has also been given a new appearance! The gallery is now organized into pages, with each love interest having their own page. There are placeholders for each image, letting players know if they’ve collected all of the CGs or still have some to find in the game.

In addition, a new toggle allows players to turn on/off sexual content for safe viewing as necessary. Even while playing in SFW mode, the R18 CGs will be skipped and not added to the gallery.

The screen that occurs when a player selects “NEW GAME” has been beautifully redesigned to feature Milo and Vincent. After selecting a pick, a pop-up appears that allows gamers to affirm that they made the correct decision.
V2.0 will include many new and exciting features. However, one of the best features is that the game size has dropped to a fraction of what it used to be. This means less space on hard drives and improved performance. And, as a reminder, anyone who previously purchased the game or received a Kickstarter key for itch.io or Steam will be able to access the new version. However, because this is a totally new build using a different game engine, save files will not be transferred over.
